National College for High Speed Rail

A new look and home for a British icon

With two donated Class 373 power cars from Eurostar, the new National College for High Speed Rail needed someone to give these iconic trains a new, bold look. I was contracted through Stewart Signs to do this unique branding work.

Personality plus beauty

Splitting the power cars up and giving each one it's own colour scheme (using the NCHSR's brand colours) I gave each train it's own bright, vivid look, and created the names for them too, paying tribute to their famous past and new homes.

A splash of colour, and a clever name choice, for a new generation

The Eurostar Class 373s are destined to become teaching aids for students at the National College, and although there was pressure to keep them in their original, somewhat dated, Eurostar liveries - the two distinct shades and designs I developed, gave them a modern, clean, stylish look - allowing for some real visual impact in their new shed spaces in Birmingham and Doncaster. I decided to keep the yellow fronts so they are instantly recognisable as British-sourced trains.

The two power cars were christened with the 'hashtag' names I developed, keeping the 'star' bit of their original brand, but adding local affectionate 'slang' names for both Birmingham and Doncaster, 'Brum' and 'Donny' respectively. The hashtags were a hit, and are used by both the college to refer to the trains, and by students taking selfies with these famous locos.
